Reader's roundup.

This is from Timi:
Without you, whom will I wake up at 6:00 AM of every school day? Whom will I convince to sleep early during weekdays? Whom will I get mad at for playing DS the whole day? Who will ask me over and over again for his weekly allowance? Whom will I love and nurture for the rest of my life?
This is from Shayne:
Finally finding these pics was such a moment for me. I have so few pictures
of my childhood because of Mom moving so often, so I will treasure these
forever. I know they were taken in Aug 1982 but I cannot, no matter how hard
I try, remember the exact day or reason for this outing. I’m imagining that
it was after mom & dad split up, and that this was either our weekend with
dad, or our Sunday outing. We often used to go to places like Green Point or
Muizenberg with Dad. Iain was still little and I do remember having to watch
him a lot on days like these, as he was always all over the place, getting
up to allsorts of nonsense. I love how Rob’s looks like such a little lady
in her cardi and skirt, whilst I look like the biggest nerd of all – wearing
one of the numerous jerseys that Gran used to knit for us. I think that Dad
still wears some of the ones she knitted for him, so they must be close on
30 years old! How far we’ve come since then.

This is from Lynn.
What I wanted: a nice photo~ a dreamy photo ~a romantic photo
What I got: a fun photo ~ a happy photo ~ a lively photo
Thanks ladies for all your hard work and enthusiastic participation~ it makes it all worthwhile.

Janis our Guest DT member for March.

My latest LO is inspired by this billboard... and its "influence" on my son, Phil.
See, we live near the national road and you can actually see the billboard from our place.

This billboard along EDSA has caught Phil's fascination that he always
climbs the windows and asks to go out for long walks just to have a
glimpse of its bright lights. Once spotted, he'll shout "Lucky Me!" and
point to the billboard.

Amusing it is, but to me, it's a reminder to always have the eyes of a child in discovering joy in simple things.

Liza's challenge 53.

The life of a scrapbooker is all about the memories she keeps through her photographs. There is nothing to preserve on paper if pictures are not available. And so it goes that every little moment in our life, we try to capture it. These photos are evidence of that one little time in our life where we tried to be no different. It may just be an ordinary studio shoot for other people, but for us it’s far more than that. It is our time together, having fun, being us. Enjoying each other’s company as captured in these photos. We will continue capturing these everyday moments, for it is all about us.

Design team call

A big hello to all the talented scrappers out there who follow journaling junkie.
Wouldn't you also love to be featured here?

  • I would love to get in some challenge ideas, if you have a LO and an idea that we can use for a challenge please contact me with your submissions.
  • If you'd like a spot as a guest designer, you'd be featured: your photo, a link to your blog and a shirt bio. I'd love to feature a guest designer once a fortnight.
  • There are at least 2 spots open on the DT as well. We require a LO every 2 weeks and an challenge idea every 10th fortnight. You must have a passion for journaling. Please email me 3 of your best journaled LO's and a short bio, picture and the reason you'd be keen to join our team. They do not have to be new LO's they can even have been featured elsewhere before. (I would prefer South African entries just because I would love to be able to send product out to all the team members, but have been unable to for so long because of the prohibitively expensive postage costs. However I will look at entries from all over the world if you're OK with having to use your own products.) If you could have your entries in to me by the 24th of April 2009.

Any queries or submissions please contact me eyeore(at)telkomsa(dot)net

Cabbie's challenge 53

journaling:
as i was looking at you,
i see a boy who's open to challenges...
who's not afraid to face adversities.
the game you're playing signifies a brief journey you'll be facing.
you continue to endure no matter how steep the step seems.
you direct your thoughts fully concentrating on what to do next.
in life, i know you'll persevere as what you did with this game.
i know you'll continue to hold on to whatever challenge that comes your way...

Challenge 53

The challenge this week is set by Shannon.

The focus of this challenge would be an everyday event and using repetition -- recording what you were thinking about either while you were taking the pictures or how the pictures made you feel after you pulled them out to get ready to scrap them -- like for instance, originally, i had planned on scrapping about how Mackenzie is scissor happy and does not like to be disturbed --- and after looking at the pictures -- i began to see something different altogether and described the event and how Mack's everyday activities might give us some perception on what she may grow up to be and why.....

the journaling reads -- which ties into the title -- will you?

be an artist.....because you like to draw and create?
be an organizational consultant.....because while you are creating things must be just so?
be a dancer....you often shuffle, twirl, jump over to me with whatever you've created?
be a great speaker.....because when you must show me your "art", you shout, "Look Momma! See, this is what I made!"
be a chiropractor or physical therapist.....because often if i don't look at the moment in which you are expecting, you will turn my head and roll your eyes and say, "Momma, I'm trying to show you something!"

whatever is in store for you...i know you'll be great at it, and you will make a difference in this crazy world....i love you mackie may!

We love each other's company and being alone together.

This one is from Rowee.

February's winner : Meet Janis.

LO removed for publication.

Title: Bitter Sweet
Journaling:
I think it is fair to say that I earned my way to college. I would not
have gone to study at my university had it not for the full academic
scholarship that was offered to me - - which proved to be most helpful
when Dad died of lung cancer halfway through my course. It was hard for
me and the family - - we were financially broke, we were all in denial and
inconsolable with our loss. I was told to stop studying and start
providing for the family? one degree was enough they said??
but I couldn't? I wouldn't? I didn't. Amidst the emotional and
financial blackmails, I persevered. Worked long hours to earn extra money
for my allowance, tried to keep everything going my way - - I was
determined as hell?? and it paid off. I graduated Cum Laude with degrees in Economics and
Accountancy and placed 9th in the national CPA licensure examination
shortly after. The journey was bitter, the end was sweet. To look back
with pride and no regrets, sweeter.

I am Janis, a scrapbooker from the Philippines.
I am married to a very supportive husband JE and a mother to Nat (3yo) and Phil (2yo).
I started scrapbooking April 2008 and have never been able to stop.
I do mostly 12x12 layouts but also dabble in cardmaking and altered projects.
I love to be challenged, and this craft brings out the passion I have for
reliving memories and celebrating life.

Liza's challenge 52

Title : random chaos

Journal:
It all started with Dominic sitting on Kuya Joseph's lap. Before we knew it, all of you were already sitting on top of each other. There was no stopping you from then onwards. The shouts, the giggles and the laughter that erupted was pure chaos. It was a moment of pure enjoyment, which I haven't seen for a while. It's always good to be with family to share these moments with. (December 2008)

Tracy King's challenge 52

Title: start stopping

It's time, really. It's time that I start stopping a few things. I've really struggled with issues about who I am. I'm sure that others wouldn't guess, because I choose to hide it. I hope well. :-) But now I'm going to stop. I'm going to stop thinking the wors and better yet...I'm going to stop expecting it. I am blessed. I am going to stop measuring myself by the numbers on my paycheck, my friend lists or the scale. I'm going to stop regretting and start living. I'm going to stop waiting. I'm going to just start stopping.

Monday, 2 March 2009

Mia's challenge 52: oxymoron.

Title: Little Big Girl

Journaling:
Somehow, you believe that you're one of us --- the "big" people.
You don't see yourself as a baby or a toddler.
You babble excessively, although we can't understand you.
You insist on eating chocolates, ice cream and chips.
You write and colour with the big girls.
And you watch Disney Channel even if it's Hannah Montana or the Wizards of Waverly Place (as if you understand it!)
You consider yourself a big girl even if you're barely 3 feet tall.
